The American Chemical Industry Began In New York:

In the late 19th century, the chemical industry was mainly headquartered in New York. The American Chemical Society was formed in 1891 as a professional association where chemists could gather and share knowledge and ideas. By 1898, The Chemists' Club was organized at its first building located on West 55th Street in New York to provide a place for business and technology to meet and be commercialized. The club provided a meeting place, laboratory space, a library, and the opportunity for networking and social events for the rapidly growing American chemical industry (The Chemists’ Club, New York).
